Who pays for the first date?

by londoncitylife @ 2008-07-24 - 01:32:05

I had a date last night.

Onc thing i just don't get about dating... is about this WHO pays WHAT business.

Went for a few drinks. He paid the first drinks, then I paid the second round.

Then he suggested to go for a meal.
We went for an italian.

The bill was about 30 pound altogether.

Then we got the bill.

So in this situation, WHO should pay the bill?

I always thought that the guy should pay the first meal.
He asked me out, he suggested meal.

So i thought he'd offer to pay.

Obviously I've been polite and suggested to share the bill.

THEN!! He quite happily accepted that offer and we paid 15 each.

Now it turned me off... Not that I don't wanna pay for 15 quid. It's nothing. But the fact that my "date" is not prepared to pay for the meal at first date made me feel like shit. I felt like cheap and almost humilated.

I am happy to pay for the 2nd meal so we'll be even out, but just i wanted a guy to pay for the meal on the first date.

Or am I totally wrong feeling this way? Is it quite normal in this country to go dutch on the first date?? Or i should've offered to pay the full?

Anyway, he texted me saying he really enjoyed etc, and asked me out again for this sunday. He suggested to go to movie and dinner... So we'd go dutch again, i guess...??

I just don't get it. I feel really embarrassed spliting the bill in the restaurant. Feel like teenager-ish. I'd rather just pick it up the bill myself. Maybe that's what I would do...

P.S. still walking to the work!

Attended Speeding Workshop

by londoncitylife @ 2008-07-18 - 01:32:55

I attended speeding workshop today.

Basically I got speeding ticket going on 37 on 30... Because it was my first speeding ticket, they won't take your precious 3 points off IF you attend the speeding awareness workshop (Fee applies of course).

So I decided to take the workshop rather than minus point.

The class was about 30 people. Lot of different people from different part of the world.. ALL speeders lol.

The workshop is about 2.5hr. First 1 hour, we do the computer simulation to decide what sort of driver you are. Asking question like do you enjoy driving, do you like thril, etc.

Then do the simulation test. Basically the screen shows the driver's view point and you click it when someone cross the road to test your ability to sensor the danger. Or let you decide how much space you have to the car in front etc etc.

Anyway, i got result. Basically I am fast driver who leaves too much space to the car in front... Hmm... I'm not really a fast driver, and fast driver usually don't leave the space, right?

Anyway, then he taught us about the myth of the road accidents. He asks us, where do accidents happen most frequently?

a. Motor way
b. Rural area
c. City

So I'd tought a, b, c. However, It was c(71%), b (25%), a(4%)

Then he asks, where the accident is most likely to involve death>

So then I thought, a, c, d. However it was b, c, a.
Apparently only 1% die by motor way accident.

So it was pretty interesting info.

Then second half goes to sort of disccussion. The seminerer asks why did you speed? People say,

well road was clear
Was thinking of something else
I wasn't aware of the speed limit
etc, etc.

But I was like... Oh come on! There is only one reason why you sped.
It's because,

DIDN'T SEE THE CAMERA

It's true though. If the road is clear, no car around, no pedestrians. There is no reason to slow down except when you see the damn thing!

So I actually said that. Well, everyone laughed. The seminere said he appreciates my honesty lol.

Well, actually then he tells us the story of little boy got killed due to the speeding etc, which did make me feel guilty. The posibility of the survival caused by car going on 30mph is 80% compared to 10% in 40mph.... SO in other words, 90% die...

Pretty scarey thoughts..

So yea, it was useful. I won't speed again!!!!

,speaking of which, i got ANOTHER speeding ticket... This time 36mph on 30. So 1 mph better.. And this time they will take my points away arrrrg!!!

Just dumped him...

by londoncitylife @ 2008-07-17 - 01:44:52

There is this guy I am seeing, well I WAS seeing till last night.

I met him about 1 month ago, and we started to see each other.

Well to be honest, he isn't particularly my type. He was pretty big built with dark hair, which i like, but he is about 5'9, and I'm 5'4 + high heel, so I'm pretty much same height as him.. And you know how I fancy tall guys.

But anyway, he was really nice guy and I thought i'd give ago even though there was no spark.

BUT...

Oh my got it's so difficult to go out with someone you don't quite fancy. I mean he is not ugly, and he is not bad guy. Although I mentioned about the height before, it isn't too much about the looks, but it's just combination of everything. How he speaks, how he jokes, how he laugh etc.

Anyway, I thought i'd just have some casual dates and see how it goes. Who knows? I may become crazy about him one day.. Well, I was hoping that day to come.

However, he was taking this real serious. 1 week after, he asked me to be his "official" girlfriend. I mean what is "official" girlfriends anyway?? Do I sign the paper? Do I declare that I'm no longer for sale? Do i set the status of my facebook to be "in relationship"??

So anyway, I said well you know it's a bit too soon, and maybe we should wait a bit more so it will be more meaningfull.

Well, he was ok with that, BUT he keeps mentioning about the word "girlfriend". and how he used is obiously to reminde me that I am his. For example, when we go for meal and i ordered fish, he says, "ohh my girlfriend wants fish!". When we talk on phone, i talk about the work, and he says, "wooooo I have a clever girlfriend xx!!" in really cheesey way. It made me feel absolutely uncomfortable.

Then he stares at me all the time, his hands all over me, and he wants to have sex with me every single second. Bloody hell it's way too much..

Then we had bit of serious conversation last night... Basically I have asked him to give me some space last week and see him in a week time, which made him feel really upset, and he had a go at me. He keep going on about why I don't wanna see him. I said I need space, but he just doesn't stop asking why why why. He says if he were me, he would still wanna see me even though he is upset with me. So he says i really dont get you.

Then today i just said hey let's just be friends. I like you bra bra, but not right for me. I haven't heard from him since then. I think he is mad at me.

I am thinking now though that maybe he IS right. Why don't I want to see him? End of the day, we were seeing each other only for 1 month. So it's a honeymoon period. I should be all over him, and I should be excited to see him, right?

So... I realized that maybe.. I didn't fancey him after all. Maybe I wanted to fancey him, but I couldn't. You can't fool yourself can you... You cannot be with someone you don't fancey..

So yea, I'm back in the shelf! Apply within ;-)

iPhone or Tocco

by londoncitylife @ 2008-07-15 - 01:05:38

After I decided to get a new phone, I couldn't decide either

OR

iPhone has better user interface, but got crap camera (2mp no flush)
Tocco is similar to iPhone but with 5mp with flush, face detection, auto focus etc.
iPhone got better music player than Tocco. It's like virtual music box.
However, iPhone is only with O2 so limitation of network.

However on July 11th.. When iPhone 3G arrived, oh my god.. so huge queue in O2 shop.

Being as lazy as I am, decision was made.. Tocco wins!!

So I didn't even bother to change the network.. I just wanted a new phone.

Using Tocco, it's pretty cool phone, but it does take time to get used to the touch pad. I never used the touch pad phone before. I usually go for Sony Ericson as it has good camera. But it has many functions that made me play with it for good few hours.

The camer isn't that good quality as it claims. My sony Ericson 3.2mp was better. But there is no perfect phone. I was pretty bored with sony ericson so it is a good change.

Well, got 2 weeks cooling off period anyway, so i will make the decision later on.

Vodafone.. They don't feed the fish they caught...

by londoncitylife @ 2008-07-13 - 20:26:09

It is 2 months before my phone contract ends with Vodafone.. So i decided to get a new phone.

First thing I did was to go to Vodafone Online to check the deals. Then I saw the tarif of 35 pounds:

- 600min
- Unlimited text
- 5 quid off for first 12 months
- Half price for first 3 months.

So i thought, hey that sounds good!

So i called to get this, but keeping same phone number...

HOWEVER,

You can't actually get this deal if you are already with Voda.. This is only to attract new customers, and basically if you are already with them, they give you no discount. You pay 35/mon from the day one.

So being a clever girl, I suggested to terminate the contract, get new contract, then swap over the phone number.

But the enermy knew it better.. They said they don't swap the number within the same network.

So basically either i get a new phone number, or go elsewhere (eg. Orange) and transfer the number. :( Pretty sure they charge it as well.

God that is so doesn't make sense tho. >:-[ Sure, voda may be getting new customers this way, but also they may be losing the reliable, sensible, honest customers after 18 months! So the number of the new customers are gonna be pretty much same as those who leave (or less)!!

Instaed, why don't they make an effort to provide this discount to ALL customers, then they can attract new customers, but also keep the existing ones happy as charm!!! It made me think of the old japanese proverb, "You don't feed the fish you cuaght". It's like a guy who does absolutely everything to the girl to get her into the bed, then once he gets there, he doesn't give a damn. UNFORGIVABLE!!!!!!!!! HEARTBREAKER!!!!!! BASTARD!!!!!

So I was SOOOOOO annoyed with them that I started to look at the other providers.

Well voda, hear me out! You are about to lose the nicest customer in the world, and YOU don't even know how much calls I make a month! (well over 600min ha-ha!)

Still going, but..

by londoncitylife @ 2008-07-11 - 01:22:29

Walking day 2. Still going. woo hoo!

I gathered that it always take 55 min each way. I live in Bow, and work near the Liverpool St. If you don't know the area, it's about 1 mile and a bit.

I'm pretty fast at first, then about half way I start feeling like, "oh my god..", then by the time I get to the brick Lane, i start regretting about this whole thing.

HOWEVER!!! Today I had to take bus for 5 min on the way back as I was in rush to pick my daughter up. She is 6 from my previous relationship. But hey, I still did good 1.5 hr altogether, so it's not too bad.

I learnt that the most important thing for diet is to keep it going. Doesn't matter what kind of excersise. If I could do this for at least 1 month, I'll be proud..

Work was pretty busy today.
Today I saw 3 new contractors who are all about 6'4 height. Then my boss (6'3) was showing them around so 4 super tall guys walking around the office. Mmmmmm visual relaxation.. B)

I have a thing about tall guys. I don't know what really gets me, but tall guys with big arms, big shoulders attract me streight away. Thought I shouldn't really have a type as it narrows down my choices, and could end up with a wrong guy. (lesson learnt ha ha!)

Well, Tomorrow is Friday and I will walk again. I'm gonna do this for a month and maybe more!!!

Did it!

by londoncitylife @ 2008-07-10 - 01:51:24

Ok..

Today I walked to work, and walked back home. Takes about 1 hour each way, so did 2 hours excersise!!!!!!!!!

So i ate cookie & cream ice cream as an award!!!
ALSO!!!!!! I did Sit-ups 10 times this morning...

However, i took a look at my tummy when i went to the toilet and oh my god... it's getting out of control... I need to do something before it's too late.

So apart from diet, today at work, I had someone helped me do some database stuff via phone/email.

I don't know how he looks like, and vice versa, but we chatted on phone and were pretty friendly.

Then he sent me a mail sayingm i owe him beers. I thought it was cute so I said i definitely owe him a drink.

THEN!

He said sure anytime. just give me a shout.

So i was like.. Wow he was serious!

But I don't know how he looks or how old he is etc. We just work in same company, and he works in different building as well. So probably nothing will happen.

But you know, it was nice little something happened today after all :D

Jesus...

by londoncitylife @ 2008-07-09 - 02:20:54

Oh my god.

Oh my god..

OH MY GODDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!

I need to go on diet!!!!!!!!

My body is out of control now.. Can't even look at my tummy properly.

I am properly on diet, and don't i know it??
So this is my diet plan.

Walk 2 Work.

From tomorrow, I'm gonna walk to the work and walk back home.
Apparently walking is the best diet according to the statistic. (sorry no ref.)

I think it'll take about 45min to 1 hour, so pretty good excersise.
Plus i get to save money for the tube.

STARTING TOMMORROW!!!!!!!

Gonna do this for 1 month and see if it makes any difference.

I am naming this diet, W2W!!

.... Let's see how long it last.
